Ubisoft picks up Star Trek: Tactical Assault for 2006 release

DS and PSP strategy/action game puts you in the seat of the great Kirk

Ubisoft picks up Star Trek: Tactical Assault for 2006 release

It's been wavering on the edge of our event horizon for nine months, but now Ubisoft has quietly announced it will pick up Bethesda's deep space title, Star Trek: Tactical Assault, for a pre-Christmas European release.

The real-time combat game places you in the original technicolour Star Trek universe, where you play through the single-player missions as either the Federation or the Klingons. The two-player multiplayer mode also throws in the Romulan, Gorn, and Orion fleets for some variety. But either way, victory will go to the captain who best balances the energy resources of his spaceship between movement, weapons and shields.

Of course, the ships of each race have their own strengths and weaknesses for you to deal with too.

But that's not all Ubisoft has planned for 2006. Added to its previously announced DS Dogz and Catz games come Horsez, and (oh yes) Hamsterz Life. We're already buying up virtual hay in anticipation. (Surely preparing virtual hamster coffins? – Ed).
