Additional PSP and DS Star Trek: Tactical Assault info beams down

Despite the constant ridicule, deep down we've always known carrying our Starfleet Tricorder with us at all times would eventually pay off. How else would we have picked up on new details of this forthcoming realtime spaceship combat we told you about at the start of the year?

Tactical Assault's one-player affair focuses on the Kirk versus Klingons conflict central to the films from the original Star Trek series – the game features two full-length, independent Campaign modes – with the player given control of one side's multiple warships and entrusted with out thinking and out dueling their opponent. Success depends on balancing tactics, effective movement, and use of your ship's weapons and shields while exploiting that of your enemy's. A branching mission structure enables you to choose your progress and the various paths eventually carry you to your campaign's ultimate outcome.

Should you feel like you canna take any more, you can put either the two-player Skirmish or Multiplayer wireless modes on screen. Here five races – Federation, Klingon, Romulan, Gorn and Orion – are available, each with its own combat philosophy, strengths and weaknesses. And you don't need Spock to tell you that, logically, tactics that lead to victory for one race will inevitably spell disaster for another.

We're likely to do another sensor sweep before review time (it's due this autumn), so click 'Track It!' to ensure any news reaches you at warp speed.
