First iPhone SpongeBob game is 3D match 3 treasure hunt

Mobile licence rung out into App Store

First iPhone SpongeBob game is 3D match 3 treasure hunt

We like SpongeBob; maybe not as much as a bouncy eight-year-old with a Patrick Star plush and Krusty Krab curtains, but we do like him. Whether we like him enough to rush over to the App Store, we're less sure about however. Maybe our affection is limited to inflight movies.

But equally, how many eight-year-olds own iPhones or iPod touches, or how many mamas and papas are prepared to let their eight-year-olds play with their iPhones or iPod touches? Surely that's what DSes are for?

Anyhow, THQ Wireless has a licence and it's going to use it, so let's welcome SpongeBob SquarePants: Atlantis Treasures; the first time we'll have the opportunity to Apple-touch Bikini Bottom, although to put it into context, this appears to be a version of the recent US-released mobile game.

So as the title tells us, SpongeBob and friends - Sandy Cheeks, Mr Krabs and Patrick are all playable characters - are off for a treasure hunt adventure. Actually make that a match 3 treasure hunt.

The twist is this is a 3D game, meaning you have to rotate your device to make the matches, earning points and amulets in the process. There are five themed rooms so you're matching falling jewels in the Treasure Room, explosive mines in the Weapons Room, molecules in the Science Room, paint blobs in the Art Room, and colourful bubbles in the Oldest Bubble Room.

Special pieces such as colour blasts, wild cards and row blasts will also be available to help or harm your progress along the way.
