Shape recognition app flexes your gaming neurones

Taking an entirely different tack to Dr Kawashima, SecretExit (which recently announced the meditative iPhone application Zen Bound) is using one of the brain's primary functions to help pump some neurones in as fun a way as possible.

Remarkably simple in concept, the game appears to fit the iPhone's abilities very nicely. A 3D shape is presented, with a silhouette in the background. The shape must then be rotated to fit the silhouette – requiring you to test your visual acuity as the shadow shifts position.

This might sound familiar to gamers who saw Fathammer's indie title, SiL, pick up two awards at Mobile Game Innovation Hunt in GDC 2007 and a Forum Nokia Pro Award. Essentially, this is the same game (with Fathammer's involvement) but has been renamed due to copyright issues.

Still, with the iPhone's multi-touch function and gorgeous screen, we can expect Spin to be the equal of (if not better than) its unacknowledged predecessor. Check out the gameplay vid below, then hit 'Track It!'.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
