To our minds there can be few more pointless uses of our precious petrol reserves than speedway. Featuring a group of motorcycle riders tearing around an oval greyhound track with the sole purpose of getting as dirty as possible whilst making as much noise, the pursuit is right down there with tractor pulls and baseball in the entertainment stakes.

Clearly Breakpoint games doesn't feel the same way though, as it has updated Speedway, its simulation of the sport (and we use the word 'sport' in its loosest possible definition) into glorious 3D for the benefit of those with beefier handsets.

The game features a full Grand Prix mode based around official speedway rules and nine real world tracks, along with a ghost racing option enabling you to take on your or a friend's best lap times and a practice mode. There are three difficult levels to test your skills over, and if you're particularly gifted you can upload your best times to a central server for others to challenge.

Fortunately, despite the tuned-up visuals we're assured that the simple one-button gameplay remains intact. Expect a fair amount of steering left, then.

Should you wish to hear more on the subject, just stay right where you are – a review will be heading back around the track to meet you shortly.
