The aliens are revolting (again)

Evolving invaders want to take over your PSP

The aliens are revolting (again)

One of the purest of arcade experiences, Space Invaders is one of those games you’ll never forget once you’ve played it. Problem is that isn’t enough to make you want to play it now there’s so many other games available. For that to happen Space Invaders would have to brought up-to-date - and that’s exactly the thinking behind Rising Star’s Space Invaders Evolution.

Of course, there is a original version of the game included, and there’s a head-to-head version where two people can play on one PSP as well. But the main thrust is what Rising Star calls its Future mode - which promises to take the original Space Invaders’ concept into an entirely new solar system.

The basic gameplay remains the same, with you controlling a spaceship that’s repelling waves of alien invaders. This time however the action happens in 3D with plenty of dazzling explosions and other pyrotechnics. There’s also a subtle difference in how you complete a level. Instead of destroying the entire wave of aliens, now you have to shoot down the mothership and this can only happened when you execute special attacks which are made available from items dropped by invaders as you destroy them. Other interesting changes promised include multiple viewpoints and rhythm action gameplay.

Assuming the little green men don’t kidnap its developers for medical research purposes in the meantime, Space Invaders Evolution should be released in November.
