Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny PSP to feature new character named after Eric Cantona?

A couple of weeks ago our own Damien McFerran wrote an article called ‘Ten franchises we’d like to see resurrected on PSP’. Meet number 7.

Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny has been confirmed. It’s based on Soul Calibur 4, featuring the full cast of original characters along with a few new ones, amongst them somebody called, if I heard correctly, Dan Pierre.

Dan and Pierre are of course the middle names of footballer Eric Cantona. Could the new character be a tribute to him? He did, after all, famously kick a fan in the face.

In a video interview with Gamespot, Namco Bandai’s Noriyuki Hiyama reveals that the PSP version has been designed with beginners in mind. The series’ trademark 8-Way Runs will be included, along with wireless multiplayer.

Incidentally, this is the third PSP beat-‘em-up to surface in the last 24 hours, along with Tekken and the downloadable Fate/unlimited.

Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny will be along in summer 2009.
