With PSP’s European launch still a while off, the big guns of the movies industry are already getting excited about the potential to sell us films, old and new, on UMD. Twentieth Century Fox will be supporting the European launch with films such as I, Robot, Alien Vs Predator, Dodgeball, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and Alien.

Unsurprisingly Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is also at the forefront of the charge and will be releasing 19 titles on 1 September. The lineup is a peculiar mix however with obvious guy movies such as xXx and Bad Boys and game-tie-ins like Resident Evil: Apocalypse and The Punisher rubbing shoulders with tweenage girl fodder such as Alias and Elektra star Jennifer Garner’s romantic comedy 13 Going on 30.

The full list is: 13 Going on 30, Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid, Bad Boys, Charlie’s Angels, Daddy Day Care, Ghostbusters, Hellboy, Hitch, Hollowman, A Knight’s Tale, Once Upon a Time In Mexico, The One, The Punisher, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Spider-Man Animated, SWAT, xXx, xXx: The Next Level and You Got Served.

In addition, copies of Spider-Man 2 will be available free to PSP owners who register through the official SCEE PSP web portal for PSP www.yourpsp.com. Only downside is UK prices for the UMD films haven’t yet been announced, although in the US they go for $30. It’s hoped UK UMDs will retail at around £20.
