Sony Loves PSP
Six million handhelds help turn company’s loss into profit
Okay, it’s hardly the same as turning water into wine or, perhaps more appropriately, base metals into gold, but it’s a significant achievement nonetheless. Sony has revealed its latest financial results showing a 51 per cent increase in revenue from sales totalling ¥2,368b (£11,399m), which effectively means the electronics giant will not suffer an annual loss for the first time in over a decade.
And it’s in no small part thanks to the PSP. Widely regarded as one of the top Christmas purchases, the company shipped 6.22 million units during the festive season alone, meaning the global handheld’s shipment to date now stands at a very healthy 15 million.
