Sony announced today that the latest version of the PlayStation 3 firmware, version 1.80, will be available tomorrow.

But what the Blu-ray does that have to do with pocket gaming we here you cry? Well, the latest firmware will finally enable you to remotely play content on your PS3 from your PSP (finally).

And this isn't any old across the living room stuff either. The functionality will be available over the internet, meaning that as long as your PSP and PS3 are both online, you will be able to use your PSP to access content on the PS3.

Although nothing specific has been stated in the Sony press release, we're guessing that this means videos, music and pictures rather than games, but on this occasion we would love to be proven wrong.

Sony has after all eluded to the possiblity of remotely playing PS3 games on a PSP, where the handheld is effectively a host screen and PS3 does all the hard work. Then there's interactions like the infamous 'wing mirror' racing game demo, which showed a PSP being used to augment a PS3 driving experience.

As soon as we know more, we'll fill you in.
