US (and Japanese) readers will already be au fait with the latest firmware update, given that it's been available in their territory since late March, but European PSP owners have been kept waiting for the latest version to be officially released.

The new features include enhanced options for playing PlayStation Network games (with Disc-Load Speed now added to the menu, for instance), thumbnail image support in the RSS Channel section as well as thumbnails of videos stored in the VIDEO folder of your Memory Stick Duo.

Related to this are an additional number of video file types, which are now playable.

Hardly the kind of fuel that would stop a dying star from going supernova, true, but we like to keep your firmware up to date. We can't sleep otherwise.

Visit the official PSP site for a more detailed outline of the new features, as well as the actual download itself, of course.
