Ooops, this is entirely my fault. Having told you about the latest firmware release in the US and Japan last week and promised to update you on when the UK version would be available, I then got bogged down in reviewing a mountain of new UMD releases and forgot all about it.

Sorry about that.

Obviously the very latest version, 3.01, is already downloadable from www.yourpsp.com and features new functionality such as the ability to set a timer to automatically download content from RSS channels, determine whether inserted UMDs boot up automatically when the PSP is switched on, and access the latest PSP user guide online, amongst others.

Sony is most excited about the Visual Player, though, which displays pretty, funky visuals while you're listening to music. Oh, and the fact that PlayStation Network titles (downloadable PSone titles) and PS3 are now supported, of course. Neither of these is yet applicable to European PSP owners, true, but at least we're ready for it when the time comes.

Naturally, all previous features of past firmware updates continue to be included. So, if you haven't already, get downloading.
