Sony has won an interim injunction to stop UK shops and online retailers selling US-sourced PSPs prior to the device’s official European launch on 1 September. Online retailer ElectricBirdLand was ordered to immediately stop selling PSP after Sony won the injunction against the company in the high court. Sony has sent out hundreds of legal warnings to retailers in recent weeks; a tactic which has halted the vast majority of sales in the UK.

ElectricBirdLand's owner Dan Morelle however decided to contest Sony, saying he didn’t think his behaviour was illegal; something backed up with the claim the site it had sold thousands of pounds worth of PSP, games and accessories to Sony companies. Morelle also says the fact some UK retailers are already selling PSP peripherals means importing units from the US shouldn’t been seen as illegal.

The case isn’t over however and will next return to court on 18 July while ElectricBirdLand has four weeks before it has to present its defence.
