Rumour: Xperia Play to miss out on Ice Cream Sandwich
|

Xperia Gamer may have some pretty depressing news for Xperia Play owners in the UK. It looks like Sony's PlayStation-certified smartphone isn't going to be upgraded to the newest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS).

In a post over on the Sony Mobile Blog, the Xperia devices that are set to receive the Android 4.0 update in the not-too-distant future are listed, and the Play is conspicuous by its absence. Similarly specced phones to the Play seem to be in line for ICS, which could point to the console side of the Play being the reason it's missing out.

While Sony Mobile has released a beta edition of the ICS ROM to the Xperia Play community, there have been reports of stability issues with some games running on the new software.

Of course, this could all be an honest mistake on Sony Mobile's part, but right now the signs aren't looking good for an official Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Xperia Play.
