East Asian communications provider NTT Docomo will be launching the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play in Japan this autumn, the company has announced.

There is no precise date for when the provider will be selling the phone, but it has said that it will be taking pre-orders from mid-October in Docomo shops.

The Xperia Play will benefit from the company’s 'Foma' high-speed service areas, allowing internet speeds of a maximum of 14Mbps, while the on-screen keyboard will allow for typing in Japanese or English.

A price hasn’t been confirmed, and there aren’t any details on which games come with the device (usually, up to six or seven games come pre-installed). All of the Xperia Play's other specs will remain the same in the transition to Japan: a 4-inch screen, the Android 2.3 operating system, 1GHz processor and, of course, the PlayStation-style buttons.
