Skype video calling being rolled out to most Sony Ericsson Xperia phones, including Xperia Play
The great e-Skype
After updating its Android app for Xperia Neo and Pro in June, VoIP giant Skype has announced that the next update will include support for most other Xperia handsets, including the Play.
The Xperia Mini Pro and Ray will be supported, along with many HTC smartphones such as the Thunderbolt, Desire, and Desire HD. Version 2.1 of the Skype Android client will be available for download on the Android Market. This software allows users to make free video calls between Android handsets, iPhones, PCs, Macs, and other supported devices.
If you are running Android Froyo (aka 2.2), you can now enable video calling in the settings. It’s not all good news though, as some users will still be left out. If you can’t see the video calling settings, then sadly it means your phone doesn’t meet the minimum requirements needed to make video calls, according to Skype. The Skype update should be pushed out soon. A full list of the 17 handsets now fully supported can be found on the Skype development blog above.
