3G slimmed down
Sony Ericsson puts its 3G handsets on a strict diet and at the first weigh-in it’s looking good…
Alright, so it’s not the slimmest phone on the block but the new Sony Ericsson K600i shows that progress is being made in the right direction when it comes to 3G handsets. While it’s still bigger than most non-3G models, the K600i measures a much more respectable 104mm long, 45mm wide and 19mm thick, yet doesn’t compromise on any of the features you’d expect from a 3G device. A standby time of 290 hours and talktime of just over 2 hours using the 3G network is achievable.
Most importantly for gamers is the pin-sharp 1.8” (176 x 220) screen with 262,144 colours and a powerful 3D chip. This hardware is showcased via the pre-installed version of Vijay Singh Pro Golf 2005, a thoroughly enjoyable timewaster that also makes good use of the joystick.
All of the other 3G features are catered for, along with a 1.3-megapixel camera, a second camera for video calling, FM tuner and Bluetooth wireless connectivity. Look out for it this summer; the network operator 3 will be among the first to offer it to customers.
