The latest Sonic Rivals 2 trailer has spun its way onto our desktop and is of particular interest because it details two of the 'battle' options you can expect to be indulging in come the game's release in November.

The first, Rings Battle Mode, is a straightforward race against an opponent to collect as many of the rings spread around the suitably vibrant platform-based levels as possible.

Well, it's as straightforward as the Sonic universe will allow. You have access to power-ups, one of which is a magnet that automatically attracts the rings in your vicinity – particularly useful if they've just been knocked out of you by your rival.

Meanwhile, Capture the Chao Mode is effectively a capture the flag affair so often found in first-person shooters, with one player grabbing an item (in this case a Chao) and rushing it back to your base to bag the point.

There is some departure from the traditional restrictions of this mode, in that you appear to be able to defend yourself even when carrying a Chao – using a power-up to encase your opponent in ice, for instance.

It all appears to be fast-paced fun. We've previously had a play of Sonic Rivals 2 and, as mentioned, we won't to wait much longer to find out whether the game delivers on its promise, but for now you can check out the footage yourself:
