A much slower Sonic embarks on a very new kind of handheld adventure

Sega has today been releasing details on its forthcoming Sonic RPG game – first issuing a press release to confirm the game's title (which was actually pretty much confirmed last month anyway) as Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood.

More excitingly, it's also released some screenshots of it in action, and they show the game is looking very pretty indeed. When in combat the top screen appears to be used to display your party's (and your opponents') status, while the actual combat seems to rely on touchscreen stylus gestures to determine how powerful an attack will be. When simply exploring the gameworld, the display reverts to using both screens.

Developer BioWare has created some of the world's top selling RPG games (such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Baldur's Gate and Mass Effect) so you can't say this game isn't in fine hands.

Sega is yet to confirm a release date, only saying it will hit DS sometime in 2008.
