First look at free-to-play Smurf's Village for iPhone

Children of the ‘80s rejoice. Not only is a 3D live-action Smurfs movie on the horizon, but Capcom has just announced the first game based on this once hugely popular animated series.

It was only a matter of time before the Smurfs phenomenon re-surged. For almost 50 years, Smurfs have appeared in everything from comic books and TV shows to toys and books, and at least 10 video games.

Now, with Smurf's Village for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, you're given the luxury of playing with Grumpy Smurf, Smurfette, and the rest of the gang where ever and whenever you get the Smurf urge.

Rebuilding the Smurf-dom

Smurf's Village is a graphically rich social game that puts you in charge of rebuilding your devastated village after total obliteration by Gargamel, the wicked sorcerer and sworn enemy of the Smurfs.

Under the guidance of Papa Smurf, you begin your adventure with only a single mushroom house and lone plot of land. Soon, your commitment and hard work pay off and you’re building houses, gardens, roads, bridges, and even a customised Smurf getaway.

The village is home to the whole cast including Smurfette, Brainy Smurf, Jokey Smurf, Greedy Smurf, and Hefty Smurf. These are your Smurf buddies who offer up their unique skills to help you in your reconstruction efforts.

Sharing the love

And, if Smurf buddies aren’t enough, you can link to your Facebook account and share your Smurf experiences and accomplishments with your human friends.

The game is free-to-play, but you’ll want to purchase Smurfberries to speed up growing and construction times and unlock specialty Smurfs. You also get bonuses for playing mini-games like Greedy Smurf’s baking game or Papa Smurf’s potion-mixing game.

Smurf's Village will be available for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad in November for free.
