Hutch has unleashed its rather good-looking cop chase title Smash Cops on the New Zealand App Store, meaning it'll be driving its way over to the UK and US at midnight.

Smash Cops takes its inspiration from those strangely entertaining chase sequences in World's Wildest Police Videos by putting you in charge of a variety of super-charged cop cars in pursuit of a runaway perp.

Viewed from above, the action takes place along busy roads: while civilian cars are to be avoided (innocent until proven guilty and all that), your fellow rampaging officers are after the same prize as you.

That prize being the opportunity to smash the target car off the road in a shower of sparks and metal.

Smash and grab

There are 20 missions in Smash Cops, alongside multiple 'attach and escape routes', four mini-games that include smashing a load of (illegally) parked cars, and a one-touch control scheme that promises to offer a more touchscreen-friendly way of steering.

Smash Cops will be out at midnight as a Universal app for £1.99 / $2.99.

Have a gander at the video below if you need to remind yourself [*casually sits on nearby cruiser's bonnet*] that crime... doesn't... pay.
