The Strongest Sage With the Weakest Link, based on the hit anime, opens for pre-registration in Japan

Developer AlphaGames has announced its newest mobile title, The Strongest Sage with the Weakest Crest. Based on the famous anime and manga series by Shotou Shinkou, the story follows a character named Mathias who transports himself thousands of years into the future to become stronger.

With how successful games adapted from anime series have been, especially on mobile, it’s no surprise we’re set to see the release of The Strongest Sage for Japanese audiences. After the manga and light novel sales skyrocketed, AlphaGames looked towards the phone market for their next endeavor. This leads us to today’s announcement of the brand new mobile RPG.

With level up mechanics, turn-based combat, and a gacha system, The Strongest Sage With the Weakest Crest is looking to harken back to some of the old JRPG classics, but with a beautiful modern art style that is exactly adjacent to the anime it is adapted from. As Matthias, the sage who transports himself thousands of years forward to become more powerful, you’ll fight against fantasy creatures like orcs, slimes, and the other usual suspects. This fits with the setting of the series, a high fantasy world full of evil darkness and creatures that will raise clubs and swords against you.

As for the game modes that will be available for you to play, you will be bouncing between three modes primarily. Story mode, which will be a retelling of the manga plot alongside turn-based gameplay sections set against a 2D backdrop. Secondly, you’ll also be playing arena mode, which is a PVP game mode through which you’ll fight against others using the party you create against their characters they choose to use. And finally, dungeons mode, which will be a sort of free-play arcade mode to grind materials and receive rewards that will help you further your party.

All-in-all, this new manga adaptation is one to keep an eye on. The anime itself has seen relatively favorable reviews, and given how much the series is focused on combat and action, it should work nearly perfectly in an action mobile game setting. If you’re interested, and in Japan where it has only been announced thus far, be sure to pre-register available on Android and iOS. You can also keep up with any updates, such as a hopeful global release, on the official website.
