The Last Blade 2, a classic fighting game from the 90s, launches for iOS and Android
After last week’s KOF 2001 ACA NeoGeo release, SNK and Hamster are back with a new addition; the legendary classic fighting game The Last Blade 2. This one was a bit of a sleeper hit in the fighting game lineage but grew a respectable fanbase due to its unique character concepts and interesting mechanics.
The Last Blade 2 features a diverse cast of characters and is mostly a fundamental fighter. No crazy air-dashes or huge combos here, but instead, a grounded and heavier combat style focused on weapons and wielding blades and spears.
With this weapon-focused combat style, there is a deep system that allows you to select from a variety of different attacks such as the POWER, SPEED, and EXTREME modes. Each of these affects your weapons in different ways, and that’s not even including the addition of a REPEL mechanic, or the SUPER SECRET SLASH and SECRET SLASH moves. Basically, there are a lot of different ways to utilize the same character, so you have a ton of options in how you choose to fight regardless of who you choose.
And that option is quite varied as well, as there are 18 different characters you can pick from to find one that melds with your playstyle. These all range from God-like entities to simple villagers and old men, but all of them hold specific moves that differentiate them from each other.
To sum it all up, The Last Blade 2 is akin to something like Samurai Shodown in the sense that it relies on weapon-based combat rather than fisticuffs like most other fighting games. However, where SamSho is slow and heavy with lethal combat, the Last Blade 2 is a mix between the hyper-fast anime style of play and the grounded fundamental style of Street Fighter.
If that all sounds great to you, you can pick up The Last Blade 2 for only $3.99 at either of the links below this article. With the ACA NeoGeo version, you get all the usual features that come with these ports, such as pad support, save states, online multiplayer and more.
