Kaigan Games and publisher Neon Doctrine have officially announced the next entry in the hit phone-based horror franchise Simulacra, appropriately titled Simulacra 3. While the general gist of the gameplay loop and mechanics remain mostly the same, Simulacra 3 introduces a brand new storyline along with some interesting, more interactive elements.

In case you haven’t heard of them, the Simulacra series is a phone-based horror franchise that seeks to use every aspect of your handheld mobile device to emulate an immersive scary story that is sure to keep you up at night. It’s tough to find a parallel, as they’re generally pretty unique games, but something like Sara is Missing or A Normal Lost Phone comes pretty close.

This means that the general gameplay loops of Simulacra see you piecing together the story by searching through a phone, solving passcodes, looking through a photo app, watching videos, and things like that. The coolest part of the series, to me at least, is that those videos and photos are all fully realized in an FMV style, giving the game Her Story vibes.

In the case of Simulacra 3, you’ll be taking on the role of an intern for a newspaper company who begins to slowly unravel a mystery that includes every bit of the fictional town the game is within and one that runs deep into the very veins of the place.

One of the more interesting aspects of the third entry as opposed to the other two is that this one is all in real-time, so you’ll always be under the pressure of solving mysteries while potential scares might pop up and interrupt you. All-in-all, much like the other two, it makes for an immersive and quite well-acted experience that will chill you to the bone.

If that sounds like your type of thing, Simulacra 3 is planned to launch aside its PC counterpart on iOS and Android on October 25th. In the meantime, you can take a peek over at the official website for more updates, screenshots, trailers, and more!
