Japanese developer Colopl announced today that its eagerly anticipated mobile game Shironeko Golf will be released globally this summer, along with pre-registration opening today as well.

Shironeko is a long-going series based on the 2014 free-to-play mobile game White Cat Project. An English port was released the following year under the name Colopl Rune Story, and stayed operating from 2015 to 2016. One spinoff and an anime series later, we’ve landed on the much anticipated golfing spinoff. Shironeko has a long lineage of numerous games, and it has built up a massive fanbase in Japan, so this title is a long-awaited entry seeing how the last entry in the series was released in 2016.

Strangely enough, the original White Cat Project was a high fantasy-based RPG with in-depth leveling mechanics and party building, so where the idea for sports spinoffs set in the modern era came from is anyone’s guess. What isn’t a guess, however, is just how high quality these spinoff games are, with White Cat Tennis being a massive success on release. Based on that previous title, Shironeko Golfing is expected to have some seriously over the top and flashy, stylistic moves in the same vein as something like Mario Golf. Don’t expect a dead-on accurate golfing simulator, but instead stylish anime characters going all out on the golf course. Along with the gameplay that can be expected from a golfing game, there will surely be character customization as well as leveling mechanics and ways to achieve new gear for your character.

Shironeko Golf will also feature numerous characters from the original, of course, and allow for PVP gameplay and ranked golf leagues. If an over the top anime-style take on the golfing genre is just what you are looking for, you can pre-register for the game on Google Play right now, and also give the official Twitter a follow for updates!
