Pac-Man is historically very important and it's always great to have a quick pill-popping session every now and then, although it's not really the hot property it once was.

Namco still did quite nicely by releasing Pac-Man and his missus on the iPhone during launch, and has decided to re-test the same waters by giving Pac-Man away free for Google's new Android powered G1 phone. Here's Scott Rubin, senior veep of sales and marketing for Namco Networks, to tell you more.

"We are thrilled to launch Pac-Man on the flagship Android-powered device. To encourage consumers to checkout Pac-Man on the G1, we are picking up the tab for the game. We want consumers to see how great Pac-Man looks on this device and how well it plays on the Android platform."

This latest incarnation of old Puckhead apparently makes excellent use of the handset's many controllers. Swipe mode allows players to direct Pac-Man's path by simply swiping in the direction you want to travel, Track mode lets players zip through mazes using the phone's trackball and Accelerometer mode allows players to control Pac-Man by tilting the phone in the direction they want to move.

You'll probably be equally excited if I told you Nacmo is also handing out free pot plants from selected mobile phone stores, eh? I'd be lying if I did say that, of course.

Still, free Pac-Man. Score.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
