Nintendo to investigate Nokia for emulator copyright infringement
|

The other day, Nokia raised eyebrows by showing off an N900 running Game Boy, GBA, NES, and SNES emulators. A video on Nokia’s blog showed Super Mario World running on the phone.

Nokia did try to qualify this potentially provocative move by pointing out that, "[m]ost publishers allow individual title usage provided that the user is in possession of the original title," but this doesn’t seem to have mollified Nintendo.

While Nokia showcases the emulators in its video, the company makes it clear that the ROMs themselves need to be acquired elsewhere.

Nintendo’s UK PR manager Robert Saunders told The Independent, “[w]e take rigorous steps to protect our IP and our legal team will examine this to determine if any infringement has taken place."

Nokia appears to have removed the offending video from YouTube and its blog.
