World of Warcraft Mobile, revealed only a few months ago, has officially been cancelled

Only a short amount of time after being announced back in March this year, Activision Blizzard’s mobile World of Warcraft game that was planned for reveal later this year has officially been cancelled. Originally revealed alongside Warcraft Arclight Rumble, this mobile MMO project set within the Warcraft universe will now unfortunately never see the light of day due to what appears to be a financing issue.

While this is quite a bummer for anyone who wanted to take the world’s biggest MMO on the go, that Arclight Rumble title is still, as far as we know in the works, so there is a silver lining here. Still, to see a title that was supposedly about three years deep into development get canned is never a good thing.

According to a report from Bloomberg, Blizzard and development partner NetEase simply couldn’t come to an agreement on a financing matter and it ended up being the death stroke for the project. We may never know the full story behind it, but this does mean that a three-year-long project is now completely gone, and the developers behind the project have been shuffled around to other projects instead.

Unfortunately, this is hardly the first time an expansive and anticipated mobile game has been canned due to bureaucratic disagreement. It’s a byproduct of the industry, and it will very likely not be the last time this sort of thing happens.

But, to be a bit more positive, we do still have Arclight Rumble on the table, and Hearthstone is still going strong, so there’s some mobile Warcraft content out there for fans of the universe! And who knows, maybe somewhere down the line ActiBlizzard will come back to this idea and we’ll see our dreams of the biggest MMO coming to our pockets later. One can always hope!

Until then, we’ll just have to deal with what we have. So, for those Warcraft fans heartbroken to hear this announcement, I’d suggest you go ahead and give Hearthstone a go to fill that void. If you’d like to do so, you can check it out at either of the links below!
