Grand Cross W hosts its first open beta test for Android audiences, launching today
Netmarble’s new strategy game Grand Cross W, announced only very recently, will now be hosting an open beta test starting tonight! This one sees a mix of a few different mobile strategy staples, including things like base-building, a collection of heroes to unlock, and various units under your command that will do battle against other players.
Grand Cross W does take a lot from modern-day mobile strategy icons like Clash of Clans or Boom Beach in how you construct a base that will offer up materials and upgrades to your units before they go to battle. These structures can range from offering up summoning materials for new heroes to simple stat boosts to your basic army units during battle.
The hero units add a degree of activeness to the battles that mostly fight themselves for you. You’ll have bands of soldiers depending on which you choose to bring into the fight, and you’ll decide who goes where, but beyond that, it’s up to the game. These heroes, however, can be assigned to whichever group needs them during the battle and offer up a ton of stat boosts to up that specific band's chances of victory against their chosen opponent.
The battles are fairly simple, as you can likely tell by that description, but they can certainly get hectic. With somewhat lane-based maps, pincer attack manoeuvres that you can pull off if you choose to direct those units the right ways, and flanking attacks that can also be done if you manage to get behind the opposition, there’s a good bit of smaller strategising that goes into the battles if you really dig into it.
Beyond that, it’s mostly upgrading your base units and your heroes as well as unlocking new ones that bring different abilities and buffs to your army on the battlefield alongside managing your kingdom and creating new structures to stay ahead of the curve. Overall, Grand Cross W is aiming to be the new Clash of Clans with an anime art style that really differentiates it from the rest.
