Hit iPhone game iShoot proved the power of lite versions when it boosted an unplayed app to the number one spot almost overnight, so we’ve naturally seen lots of demos appearing on the App Store lately.

We’ve been chatting with Brian Akaka over at Freeverse, and he tells us the Silver Award winning Scalextric-style racing game, SlotZ Racer, is the next title to get the lite treatment.

The difference here is it won’t be a straightforward cut down version of the game. Instead, Freeverse is giving away a free track editor – something that any Scalextric simulator is surely incomplete without. After all, wrestling those segments of track together is a significant aspect of the game’s entertainment value.

Players will be able to race on their custom tracks, natch, but the SlotZ Racer track editor will also allow users to share their creations with other players either by emailing them, uploading them to the Freeverse server of via direct wifi sharing.

There’s even a track browser to check out other people’s creations, download them, and either edit them some more or get racing. We’ve got some screenshots for you to take a look how the tracks will be put together and below is a video demonstrating the Slotz Racer track editor in use.

Having been submitted to the App Store last week it’ll hopefully be with us in the next day or two.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
