Sky Sports 2-for-1 World Champions Pack

As good as both the games in this 2-for-1 pack are, Ronnie O'Sullivan Snooker 2008 and Phil Taylor Power Darts 2008 are both games that could be substituted for a trip to the pub with friends. For those of you unable to do this, however, Player One's compilation is definitely the next best thing.

It’s easy to see where this compilation came from. Both games have newer versions available, so last year’s models have been chucked into the bargain bin to clear stocks - but that’s no bad thing at all for the thrifty pocket gamer. You see, neither game has really evolved much in its 2009 iteration - especially Ronnie O’Sullivan’s Snooker.

Shadow Light Games had perfected its snooker and pool simulator even before Ronnie’s 2008 games, so there’s really been nothing to improve upon in subsequent versions.

Dropping the 3D graphics for beautiful pre-rendered visuals backed up by a slick camera system and comprehensive controls has ensured any Ronnie O’Sullivan Snooker game is well worth playing.

As Will Freeman explained in his review of the original, “Whether you're a snooker fan or general game player, what you'll find here is a tidy little package with hours of gameplay tucked away.

"In addition to the expertly crafted game of snooker on offer, a workable multiplayer mode, variable single match lengths and reliable quality throughout make this take on the familiar genre format one of the best yet available,”

And Phil Taylor can claim much the same thing. The darts games he’s lent his name to have gradually tweaked the gameplay mechanics to the closest approximation a mobile game could hope to achieve to the real sport.

It must be hard to make a darts game that doesn’t involve placing a cursor on the board and hitting ‘throw’, but Phil Taylor Power Darts has managed to work a decent amount of skill into chucking virtual arrows.

In the words of Jon Mundy, “The main question mark over Phil Taylor Power Darts '08 is with the overly simplistic dart-throwing system. And to counter this, the developer has skilfully created enough smoke and mirrors to stop things from getting stale too early.

"It doesn't quite represent a spectacular bullseye, then, but rather a confidently taken double.”

It sounds kind of obvious, but anyone who already owns one of these games probably isn’t going to find too much to keep them entertained.

But if they’re new to you, or you’re specifically on the hunt for a snooker or darts game, these are pretty much the genre leaders, so you might as well take up Sky on its 2-for-1 offer.

Two games representing the pinnacles of their respective genres, that haven’t really been improved upon in their 2009 versions, making this quite a bargain pack for anyone on the lookout for a snooker or darts game

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
