2K Games creating social games based on Sid Meier franchises for GREE platform

Japanese social gaming firm GREE has announced a new deal with US-based developer 2K Games that will see two of Sid Meier's most popular titles - Pirates! and Civilization - released on the GREE platform.

"Creating social mobile games based on the Sid Meier's Pirates! and Sid Meier's Civilization franchises are our way to connect with Japanese fans in a fun and innovative way," Fabien Siouffi, vice president of online and social at Take-Two Asia, said.

Unfortunately, we're not entirely sure what social features will be added to the games, but we presume some kind of multiplayer will be implemented.

"Sid Meier's Civilization and Sid Meier's Pirates! have been beloved franchises for decades, and Civilization has been recognized as one of the greatest strategy franchises of all time with nearly 11 million units sold-in worldwide," Christoph Hartmann, 2K's president, said.

"Recreating these timeless classics on GREE's fast-growing platform is a fantastic opportunity for us to bring deep, rich gaming experiences to a new audience."
