You want our view on what would make a good Shrek game? Leave the ogre out of it, and just focus on Donkey. It'd be genius.

Alas, Gameloft has taken the admittedly far more commercially viable route of building Shrek the Third around its hero. The game is just being released now.

Coming out alongside the latest Shrek film, the game actually lets you play as Shrek or Dragon, and thankfully Donkey is included, along with Puss In Boots (we assume this makes sense within the context of the movie's plot).

The game follows Gameloft's now-standard formula of mixing traditional platform action with set-piece interludes – in this case, flying through the city as Dragon. The game has eight levels, spread across the City of Far Far Away, the Magic Forest, and the royal castle.

Gameloft promises all manner of villains to beat up, as well as secret locations that can be unlocked by bashing through walls.

If you're looking forward to the film, it sounds like Shrek the Third will be a fun accompaniment. And if you want more info, read our exclusive preview of the game.
