Sexy Fairy Rings

If one single declaration of not believing in fairy folk causes one of the poor things to pirouette off this mortal coil, imagine what giving them a bad review might do. They'll be committing suicide en masse half-way through applying glittery blusher in dressing rooms throughout London.

Sexy Fairy Rings is an adult-themed puzzle game with a quite bizarre otherworldly theme. As with most adult games, success in the main game mode unlocks some pornographic content for you to gawk over. Sexy Fairy Rings offers you six pictures of the fairies of the title (albeit sans rings). If leering over your bog standard scantily-clad lady on your mobile seems odd, then surely letching over fantastical beings, breasted or otherwise, is surely at least a step or two beyond. If your interests have already been aroused, then good for you – they are little more than naked women with wings attached after all – but you'll have to forgive some of us for looking on, slightly perplexed.

These images are unlocked over 21 levels of the main game mode. In each level, you're faced with a number of nodes, and all apart from one is covered a coloured play piece. You need to re-arrange these pieces so that they end up on a similarly coloured node. However, the pieces can only travel along preset lines. There isn't a link between all nodes either, so you have to use the empty node carefully to ferry-about the pieces correctly.

In some of the levels, you're given as long as you like to move them about, but in others you'll have limits of both time and the number of moves you can make. Thankfully, there aren't any restrictions for the first few levels, as Sexy Fairy Rings is a game where you'll most likely need to indulge in a bit of trial-and-error experimentation before discovering any successful strategies. On top of the standard 21-level campaign mode, there's also a gallery where you can gawk over the images you've managed to unlock, plus a casual Free Play mode where you get to play a single random level.

Unfortunately, unusual fairy theme aside, Sexy Fairy Rings is mostly to be characterised by its air of the unremarkable. There's nothing about the gameplay itself that really alludes to the game's fairy subjects. Even a simple level map screen would have added a layer of translucence to mitigate for this transparency. As is, the in-game experience is limited by a fairly drab visual style and some slothful controls that we can only imagine were used to prolong the game's length. Rather than switching quickly between the pieces, movement is constrained by a languorous 'fairy dust' cursor. Even if you've had a revelation about how to finish the level, your wits are forever at the mercy of these treacle-y controls.

Sexy Fairy Rings offers more content than a lot of adult-themed games, but when the adult content itself is of such an atypical nature, we have to ask whether we can really afford Sexy Fairy Rings the sort of accommodating low expectations that come with clapping your eyes on an amusingly-titled adult game.

Where does that leave Sexy Fairy Rings? Slap bang in the middle of nowhere, cruising aimlessly somewhere between Croydon and Neverland.
