At first glance this is rather an unexpected film tie-in for the iPhone, but considering this is a game-playing iPod, it does kinda makes sense. School of Rock, the awesome 2003 Jack Black movie about a hard-rockin' dosser who teaches upper class kids the virtues of rockin' out, is available now on the App Store.

Rather than following the plot of the film, however, School of Rock reads more like a pocket version of Rock Band, allowing you to play along with a list of rock songs (as well as your own music) by learning to play a variety of virtual instruments. Drums, guitar, keyboards and bass are all present, and trivia questions, quotes and memory challenges are also included to improve your scores.

It doesn't look like quite the anarchic jam-fest you might expect from Mr. Shneebly, but as virtual instruments go, the screenshots definitely look the part.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
