There are plenty of game developers trying to do something new with music and the latest is UK start up 8linq.

It's just released its debut iPhone title Say What?!

A free game that comes with three free tracks including Calvin Harris' Ready For The Weekend, it combines lyrics-based Simon Says-style gameplay with the track download business model of the Tap Tap Revenge games.

Finger matchin' good

You have to match the lyrics of the track that's playing, which are displayed at the top of the screen, tapping on various items speeding by on a conveyor belt below to gain points. Some items need to be matched while others are just there to confuse you.

You're encouraged to play tracks again and again for high scores via Facebook, as well as challenge your friends, and more importantly for the developer, at least, buy additional tracks.

Say What?! has launched exclusively with Sony Music, hence you can buy more songs from artists such as Kasabian, The Zutons, The Hoosiers, Scouting for Girls, Toploader, and err... The Nolans (no, really), at the cost of $1.99, €1.59 or £1.49.

Say What?! is out now for iPhone (an HD iPad version will follow) and it's free.

You can see how it plays in the following video.
