Match more than four if you dare in cute iOS puzzler Safari Party
Snappy snap
Mixing up arcade action and puzzle match-four mechanics comes Safari Party from US developer Pixowl.
Gameplay-wise, you have to swap animal symbols vertically and laterally around the grid to make groups that disappear, allowing new symbols to drop down.
We're all used to that, of course, but there's more strategy here as you can choose to create as large a group as possible, only gaining the points when you tap on the connected group - or in the manner of the game, taking a photo of the animals.
Animals on paradeThrow in various power-ups and a time limit and in this way, the developer says it becomes a mental and speed challenge as you progress through the game by unlocking new mind twisting modes.
Also adding to the atmosphere is the excellent artwork - five themes, 35 characters - from French cartoonist Laurel.
"While creating Safari Party, we strived to go beyond ordinary match-four puzzle games and give the player full controls of his moves," explained Sebastien Borget, Pixowl's co-founder.
"We put a lot of effort into the design and make it appealing for casual gamers, kids and family and yet challenging enough for senior puzzle gamers."
Supported by Game Center and OpenFeint for achievements and leaderboards, Safari Party is out now for iPhone and iPad, priced 99c, €0.79 or 69p.
