SWAT: Target Liberty hoping to storm PSP

Third-person tactical shooter to be exclusive to Sony's handheld

SWAT: Target Liberty hoping to storm PSP

The SWAT titles have, for the past few years, enthralled many PC gamers with their gritty realism and tactics-heavy, close quarter style of combat, and this is something the series is obviously hoping to emulate on the PSP.

It would certainly explain why developer 3G Studios has sought the help of a SWAT veteran, who will act as the game's consultant to ensure the authenticity of the experience.

Hoping to provide further intensity is script writer Scott 'The Shield' Rosenbaum, who has set SWAT: Target Liberty in New York City, where a special weapons and tactics team is expected to thwart an increasing number of terrorist threats.

Each officer in the unit offers a speciality and, using a special skill system, you can upgrade their individual combat expertise thereby increasing their chances of success.

"We don't intend to disappoint with this upcoming version for the PSP system," promises Cindy Cook, chief strategy and marketing officer for publisher Vivendi. "SWAT: Target Liberty was designed specifically for the PSP system to ensure it delivers a full-featured, high energy operation that lives up to what fans expect from these hit tactical titles."

Let's hope fans aren't also expecting infrastructure multiplayer because only an ad-hoc option is planned, but that should at least enable a variety of game modes.

SWAT: Target Liberty is scheduled for deployment this autumn and we should obviously have more intel soon.
