What do you get if you combine the trick-packed sport of snowboarding with the cutesy fun of Mario Kart? The answer might just be SBK: Snowboard Kids, the latest DS project to be unveiled by those prolific pocket games publishers Rising Star Games.

Hot on the heels of classic arcade conversions like Bubble Bobble, Rainbow Islands and Space Invaders, SBK: Snowboard Kids promises to maintain its reputation for parading distinctly Japanese wares before eager European eyes.

Due to hit these streets next March, the game sees players taking to the slopes as one of six cute characters and tasked with performing outrageous stunts to rack up scores and cash whilst simultaneously competing to be first to the finish line. The use of attacks such as fireballs and freeze attacks, combined with some imaginatively treacherous courses, draws obvious parallels with the racing antics of a certain Italian plumber and the resulting wireless multiplayer battles promise to propel Snowboard Kids to higher slopes than the usual winter sports fare.

The use of the touch screen to pull off special tricks (some of which will help you avoid attacks) and the ability to buy extra special moves as well as boards, courses and even game modes with cash earned in-game adds yet another dimension.

Hopefully we'll not be too board [please stop now! - Ed] of winter sports games to give SBK a fair run come the springtime.
