Here's a game that stomps all over the array of pet and kids games that have been announced for DS at this year's E3. And it stomps over them with big metal feet too.

Robocalypse is a just-announced real-time strategy game which has been developed specifically for DS and is being published by Tecmo. It's set in a world of "wise-cracking", battling robots who come complete with what's described as madcap weaponry and uproarious destruction.

The comical single-player story mode has been penned by Jay Lender and Micah Wright - the former of whom is writer and director of the SpongeBob Squarepants series.

There's also a multi-player mode in which up to four players can compete head-to-head or play co-operatively in wireless matches.

The game is essentially a strategy war game where you choose from over ten different robot units each with specialised skills and weapons as well as attitudes and personalities. Their weapons include Falling Anvils, the Head-Crack'n Gauntlet and Converter Cannons - nothing run-of-the-mill here.

Fancy playing robots with attitude in a unique-sounding strategy game? We quite like the sound of it. It only has a release date in the US at the moment though - which is October 2008. Hopefully it'll get a Euro release not too long after.
