Making use of the two big trends of the moment - freemium and standalone games based on existing successes - the Disney-owned Tapulous has released a free, ad-supported, version of its musical racer Riddim Ribbon

The original - which is heavily orientated around the music of Black Eyed Peas - remains on sale for $2.99.

Singing all new song

The new version, which is simply entitled Riddim Ribbon, includes 14 free tracks from people you've probably not heard of.

There's also additional paid for content from the likes of Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Fall Out Boy ... and some from The Black Eyed Peas.

This is priced at 99c for two track packs or 100 in-game credits.

As for the game, you (still) control a ball moving down a curving ribbon, collecting pebbles and colour matching them for bonuses, plus passing checkpoints to achieve high scores.

If you stray too far off the path or hit obstacles, you lose your groove, while you can jump to the upper track for the remixed version of the song. There's also an online mode for people who want to play multiplayer.

Note: Riddim Ribbon is not recommended for use with first generation iPhones and first generation iPod touches.
