Yamaoka, Grasshopper developing Neon Genesis Evangelion rhythm-action title for PSP

Japanese gaming bible Famitsu is reporting that Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka has once again teamed up with Suda 51’s Grasshopper Manufacture, this time to make a new Neon Genesis Evangelion game.

But this is no ordinary mech fighter. The new game will be called Rebuild of Evangelion Sound Impact, and it's a rhythm-action title directed by Kazutoshi Ida, the man behind quirky, niche titles like Doshin the Giant and Aquanaut’s Holiday.

Yamaoka is on sound design duties, remixing Evangelion tracks for the game’s 30-song soundtrack, while Suda has the role of ‘creative producer’, reports Andriasang.

Rebuild of Evangelion Sound Impact will launch in Japan on September 29th, with two special editions featuring soundtrack CD, t-shirt and earphones. A western release seems unlikely, but with Suda and Yamaoka’s involvement bound to generate some interest, you never know.
