Australian developer Firemint has led the charge in updating apps to the iPhone 4’s new screen resolution, in updates to popular games Flight Control and Real Racing.

While developers are concentrating heavily on adding multitasking support to games, with teams such as PopCap and Tapulous adding quick-switching to Plants vs Zombies and Tap Tap Revenge 3, app designers are also anxiously waiting for the iPhone 4, and the high resolution screen it sports.

Firemint is the first game developer to support the iPhone 4’s new 960x640 display, and has updated line-drawing air traffic control game Flight Control, and driving sim Real Racing GTI with new graphics specifically to cater for the increased resolution.

You can see the images in their full resolution glory in the gallery above.

Both games also support multitasking, allowing you to switch between apps with iPhone and iPod touch iOS 4. You could even do a spot of driving, before switching out to land some planes, if you were so inclined.

Real Racing also received more responsive and accurate controls for iPhone 4 gamers, by utilising the device’s new three-axis gyroscope, alongside the classic accelerometer. And it makes use of the iPhone 4’s extra power to purportedly pump out smoother gameplay.

We won’t know for sure until the iPhone 4 officially goes on sale tomorrow. You can vote for Flight Control, and its spiffy new visuals, in our Pocket Gamer World Championship.
