You might recall that Melbourne-based iPhone developer Firemint recently teamed up with Volkswagen to deliver an astute new take on the free demo, by branding its seminal iPhone racer in the Real Racing GTI Lite version.

Well, the engine is revving in the other direction now, as the newly released 1.21 update adds in two official Volkswagen GTI cars to the premium version.

The combination of the hot new VW hatchback and a free lash at Real Racing has proven immensely popular, shunting the Lite game to number one in the Free Apps charts on the App Store, so it’ll be great to see what the GTI can do against Real Racing’s other premium cars.

To celebrate, Firemint’s also reduced the price of the full game to just £2.99 (or $4.99 and €3.99 if you prefer) so there’s little excuse for not getting behind the wheel on this massively important iPhone hit. Check out our full review of Real Racing, then put your foot down on the 'Buy It!' pedal to take it for a spin.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
