Aussie studio Firemint has announced that it will be adding online multiplayer support to Real Racing HD once iOS 4.2 hits Apple’s tablet. The developer announced the same thing about Flight Control HD earlier this week.

The new firmware update will bring features like multitasking and Game Center over from iPhone and iPod touch to iPad, meaning games like Flight Control and Real Racing can add achievements, leaderboards, and online multiplayer to their tablet editions.

The gorgeous racing simulator will get four-player online races, with both the ability to be paired up with rivals randomly, and to invite some pals to the starting line. The game already has local head-to-head matches on Bluetooth and six-player rubber burning competitions over wi-fi.

The developer also notes that an update is planned for the pocket version of Real Racing, to bring online multiplayer to the iPhone and iPod touch racer.

iOS 4.2 will purportedly be released this Friday. Firemint hopes to get the updates to Flight Control and Real Racing out as soon as the update is available, so it looks like you can set aside this weekend for some online racing and air traffic controlling.

If you haven’t got it yet, Real Racing is out on iPad for £5.99 / $9.99 / €7.99, and iPhone and iPod touch for £2.99 / $4.99 / €3.99.
