Real Racing 2 HD, the impending tablet-edition of Firemint’s simulation racer, will be one of the first games to take advantage of the iPad 2 spec-bump.

The iPad 2 has a dual-core A5 chip (compared to its predecessor's single-core A4 processor), which Apple claims can pump out nine times the graphics performance of the original iPad. It also packs an iPhone 4-style gyroscope for more sensitive tilt controls.

The Aussie developer behind Flight Control and Real Racing says it didn’t know about the iPad 2 specs before Apple’s keynote, but has been developing a more graphically intensive version of Real Racing 2 HD, just in case the new tablet was a technical leap forward.

Well, it was. “The 9x faster graphics, gyroscope and slimline form factor have us really excited,” the developer writes. “Real Racing 2 HD will absolutely shine on such powerful graphics hardware combined with our own rendering enhancements.”

“The gyroscope will also contribute to the smooth and intuitive handling as it adds another sensor input we can check against for added precision,” says Firemint. The 1080p HDMI output, accessible via an extra cable, is also getting some attention from the developer.

Firemint doesn’t have a release date for the iPad edition, but it’s on the way. We gave the amazing game a Platinum Award when it hit iPhone, for “an impressive slate of features and superb design.”
