Classic Amiga platformer to egg-cite old school game fans

The PSP and mobile phone might be at the centre of the current retro gaming explosion, but Nintendo's Game Boy Advance has long been in on the act. Although considering how long the Game Boy has been on the scene in one form or another (the original came out in 1989), the arrival of ancient platformer Qwak (released on Amiga in 1993, and on the BBC Micro before that) could almost be described as a late conversion rather than a retro recreation.

The game, which places you in the role of a fruit-collecting, platform-leaping, egg-hurling duck, reaped rave reviews from the press at the time (including 88 per cent from The One magazine, staffed by our very own contributor Simon Byron!).

Now lovingly transferred to the GBA by veteran coder Jamie Woodhouse, can Qwak possibly hope to repeat the feat 13 years later?

We're going to reserve our judgement for a suitably egg-acting full review, but you can hatch your own opinions by downloading the demo version at www.qwak.co.uk.
