With the App Store hurtling through the 10 billion download barrier and boasting more than 300,000 titles on its digital shelves, it’s fair to say that iPhone app consumption levels are at an all-time high!

Separating the wheat from the chaff has, therefore, never been harder, particularly when the official Top 50 listings are susceptible to partisan voting and cynical seasonal price cuts.

Critical mass

Pocket Gamer sister site Quality Index (or Qi for lazy peeps) trawls the web for game and app reviews from the planet’s most respected online and print sources, collates them in a magical way, and outputs a single Qi rating for each product.

After circumnavigating the iPhone universe for months on end, Qi has accumulated more than 45,000 expertly written critiques.

Reviews from over 60 independent sites - including 148Apps, Slide to Play, and AppVee - are now feeding into Qi's bowels, with the promise of more to come as the Quality Index casts its critical net even wider.

From Cave to Appular, Somethin’ Else to Crescent Moon Games, iPhone publishers are lining up to include Qi's ringing endorsement in their App Store descriptions.

In addition to its dynamically updating charts, the Quality Index team produces weekly round-ups, analysis, and rundowns using data generated by the unique Qi ratings.
