New Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice PSP screens apprehended

You know, chances are PSP owners will be focusing all their attention on the big shot releases this Christmas – that'll be SOCOM: Tactical Strike, Syphon Filter and WipEout Pulse.

Yet, much as we're excited about those games, every time we receive a new batch of Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice screens, our heart beats just that little bit faster than for any similar update relating to other forthcoming PSP titles this year.

It could be because the images never fail to display a technical brilliance few other games for Sony's handheld have yet managed to achieve. It could be because the wonderfully coloured environments displayed withing convey a singularly focused ideal: fun. And it could also be because the absurdly energetic trailer from earlier on in the year is still fresh in our mind.

But mostly, we think, it comes down to the fact that, despite its flaws, the first Pursuit Force holds a very special place in our gaming soul. And much of that is undoubtedly a result of it turning up early on in the PSP's European life as an original game – not a franchise extension, not a PS2 port, but a genuinely new concept designed specifically for the handheld. It felt fresh, exciting and its vibrant, over-the-top nature has since possibly only gained in charm.

And that's why the prospect of Extreme Justice is so thrilling. Because if it manages to iron out the niggles of its predecessor, this looks set to emerge as the signature PSP title. A bold statement, but we like to live dangerously.

Here's hoping you enjoy the shots as much as we do.
