World Tour Golf renamed ProStroke Golf: World Tour 2007

Publisher chips in with new name based on control system. A stroke of genius?

World Tour Golf renamed ProStroke Golf: World Tour 2007

World Tour Golf is no more – long live ProStroke Golf: World Tour 2007. That was the wordy rallying cry from Oxygen Interactive today, as it decided to bow to the results of focus groups and press feedback and re-brand its game with emphasis on the 'groundbreaking control mechanic'.

Well, that's the official line anyway, and though more cynical journalists than ourselves might try and sniff out some trademark issue or pressure from a brand owner (like Sony's World Tour Soccer for instance), we'll give it the benefit of the doubt.

Regardless of the name, the game still sports a promising feature list, headed up by the now titular 'pro stroke' control system, which enables players to create every kind of pitch, chip, drive or flop via one central swing control, rather than the usual somewhat artificial 'shot' menus. It's backed up by multiple game styles (from short scorecard challenges to a comprehensive career mode), 18 global courses (plus a course designer) and hot seat and wi-fi multiplayer options.

Add in a sprinkling of TV commentators plus some motion-captured pros (including Colin Montgomerie, Justin Rose and Sergio Garcia), and ProStroke Golf could well be one worth waiting fore. Assuming that is, you don't feel too putt out by the late name change.
